We have started off the year with Grammar and proper sentence writing. The Grade 5's will be making Parts of Speech games for the Grade 3 and 4's to play. Ask your child about their game!
To become a better reader, we are working on strategies we can use Before reading, During reading and After reading. Your child will be bringing home a reading strategy each week and it would be helpful if you encouraged them to use this strategy in all of their reading.
Here is a helpful activity to use when you can't seem to remember your Spelling words.
Word Sort
Make a set of word cards for each spelling word. The word cards can include all of the current spelling words and words from previous lists that may be similar. You can then sort, or group, the words into categories. The categories can be selected by your parents or created by you. Examples of categories might be words with the same vowel sound, rhyming words, or words with the same ending. Review these word cards every night, making sure that you know the meaning of the spelling word ALONG WITH the proper spelling!!
